Laura Whitmore suffers blow as show Date My Mate is axed after one series after her ITV chat show was also given the chop
Laura Whitmore’s Prime Video show Date My Mate has been axed after one series.
Date My Mate saw singles putting their love lives in the hands of their friends, who helped them swipe and match with people on an exclusive dating app.
It is the TV presenter’s second show, having recently received the award after ITV chose not to renew her Sunday program Laura Whitmore’s Breakfast Show.
An insider said The sun: ‘Love Island is a distant memory and she has stopped hosting her weekend show on ITV1, so this is a rather disappointing hat-trick of farewells.
‘Laura seems to have tried several projects after leaving the villa, including chat shows and documentaries, but it seems even the familiar territory of a dating show isn’t a safe bet.’

It is the TV presenter’s second show, having recently been given the opportunity after ITV opted not to renew her Sunday program Laura Whitmore’s Breakfast Show.
Laura started hosting her ITV breakfast show in 2023, but ITV announced in February that it would be replaced by Farmhouse Breakfast, presented by Jimmy Doherty and Shivi Ramoutar.
A representative for Prime Video declined to comment.
The Irish beauty stepped down as host of Love Island in 2022 after fronting the dating show for three seasons.
She has since filmed investigative documentaries and expressed her relief at being a producer on her ITVX series Laura Whitmore Investigates, having previously only been ‘the face’ of television projects.
The DJ admitted she sees the move as her way of “reclaiming my power” after being “frustrated” by having “no control” over the shows she worked on.
Laura also revealed that she is getting therapy after it was offered to her for the first time, admitting: ‘I never really feel like I fit in!’
The television personality confessed that she may never have asked for mental health care because she “didn’t want to be seen as weak.”
Speaking to The Telegraph, Laura said: ‘Sometimes – often – your job is to show up and look a certain way. I’ve worked on shows where I had no control over my script, the production or anything like that.

‘When I first started on Radio 5 Live, I got comments on Twitter: “Why do you have that bimbo in that slot?” […] I never really feel like I belong anywhere, but who does?’
She continued, “Once I can add something to the story and get something out of it, I’ll do a damn good job of it, and I hope I’ll do it as well as I can.
‘I have a beautiful life, but I will also call the s**t out because I hope I can keep doing this for years to come and it will get better and I will gain more strength. I certainly have more power now than I did ten years ago in this industry.”
