Laura Dern and Diane Ladd look stylish to plug book on SiriusXM

Laura Dern, 56, and her mother Diane Ladd, 87, are living legends with long and successful careers.

They are also new authors and have co-written the book Honey, Baby, Mine: A Mother and Daughter Talk Life, Death, Love (and Banana Pudding).

The duo stopped by SiriusXM on Monday to talk about their book and they both looked radiant.

The Big Little Lies star opted for a blue and white patterned blouse, cream trousers and matching shoes. Her long blonde hair was worn in her signature style – parted slightly off-center with long side-swept bangs.

Meanwhile, the Rambling Rose actress wore a tan knit top, pants and long duster with ivory moccasin-style shoes.

She wore her hair pulled back from her face in a half-up/half-up style and wore a long necklace with two large green stones hanging from the delicate gold chain.

In 2018, Ladd was given just six months to live after she was misdiagnosed with pneumonia after inhaling poison spray from the farms next to her home.

That eventually caused a narrowing of her esophagus. Dern, dissatisfied with the diagnosis or prognosis, transferred her to another hospital where she made a full recovery.

However, on the road to Ladd’s recovery, Dern was determined to help her mother rebuild her lung capacity after doctors told her that her long walks could help repair the damage done.

Dern was inspired to creatively challenge her mother on their walks, so she recorded their conversations.

Those conversations have been turned into their new book, a series of personal conversations between an adult daughter and her ailing mother.

Thankfully, Ladd turned out to be misdiagnosed and made a full recovery, but the pair grew closer through all the quality time they spent walking and talking.

The Telegraph’s review of the book called it “the best, most truthful, most shockingly entertaining Hollywood memoir I’ve ever read”. It is also one of the most loving.

At one point in the book, the mother-daughter duo reminisce about Dern’s troubled teenage years.

“Do you feel I’ve tricked you?” Ladd asks Dern. “Absolutely,” Dern replies.

“I bet you’re thinking about the time I slapped you,” Ladd says. “You said to me, and I’d had a terrible day. You were only 10, and you said something very teenage wise by the fridge… I thought, what am I doing wrong as a parent?’

Dern, noting her frustration that Ladd didn’t apologize for that, pointed out that she was 14 at the time and reminded her mother that she was “really unhappy at work and wanted to come home and blame someone else.”

Ladd and Dern aren’t afraid to tackle the big topics: love, sex, divorce and death.

Dern was the second daughter of Ladd and her ex-husband, actor Bruce Dern, 86.

Their first child, a daughter also named Diane, died when she was 18 months old when she fell into a swimming pool and hit her head. Laura was born five years later.

Honey, Baby, Mine: A Mother and Daughter Talk Life, Death, Love (and Banana Pudding) hit bookstores everywhere on April 25.
