Launceston, Tasmania: Family robbed after truck ploughed into home

Disgusting act of criminal against terminally ill cancer patient after a huge truck drove into her home: ‘Incredibly disturbing’

  • Items worth thousands of dollars disappeared

A mother and daughter who had their home partially destroyed by a truck suffered another blow from some low life thieves who robbed their vacant, half-ruined home.

Anna and Amy Nati had thousands of dollars worth of items stolen from their home in Launceston, Tasmania in early April after a semi-trailer plowed through their home on March 22.

The family was already reeling from the truck accident, which killed their pet cat and partially destroyed their home from the truck.

Repairs had yet to begin on the house – it doesn’t feel like home anymore – when vicious thieves struck.

Meanwhile, Amy was recently diagnosed with Hodgkin’s lymphoma, a form of cancer, and is terminally ill.

More than $2,000 worth of Amy’s Disney collectibles were stolen from the property, along with hundreds of DVDs and boxes of letters written by her daughter that Anna had kept.

Having moved between three homes in three weeks since the crash, the family never imagined they would be victims of crime.

‘I mean, who does that? You often hear about floods and people raiding houses and stuff, and you just think: low-life,” Anna told Seven News.

“Since we walk into all this and there’s nothing left, it’s cold, it’s not our house.”

The pair had just celebrated an anniversary of moving into their home in Invermay, Launceston, before being forced to vacate it pending repairs.

“Amy has cancer and she doesn’t have much time left and being surrounded by her stuff is important to her.

“(It) would have been lovely for me if she’d sit there and just reminisce and remember Amy,” Anna said.

“It would mean a lot to us to get those things back.

“Just have a heart and think about our situation.”

To date, more than a week later, none of the items have been recovered by the family.

Daily Mail Australia has contacted Tasmanian police for updates on the case.

a GoFundMe hosted by family friends Cassie and Marcia is seeking $4,000 to help them pay a bond for permanent housing as they recover from the tragedies.

So far $1,900 has been raised in less than 24 hours.

The money will primarily cover their bond, with additional money spent on appliances while insurance claims are processed on the old house.

Last month, the driver of the trailer had a medical episode behind the wheel.

He went off the road before crashing into an oncoming car and colliding with Anna’s house. He died afterwards.

The passenger of a white Toyota Corolla that was hit by the truck has been rushed to Launceston General Hospital with serious injuries.
