Latvian defender Marcis Oss scored one of the fastest own goals ever on Tuesday after putting the ball into his own net after just fourteen seconds against Liechtenstein.
The 32-year-old centre-back was left red-faced after the comical error which occurred almost immediately after kick-off at the Antonis Papadopoulos Stadium in Cyprus.
Liechtenstein pushed high when the referee got the match underway and soon found themselves with a shocking lead less than a minute into the friendly.
Oss initially watched on as his defensive partner headed a ball away towards the Latvian penalty area, before making the disastrous blunder as he tried to pass back to his goalkeeper.
The experienced defender currently plays his club football for Latvian side FK RFS and made his 26th appearance for the national team during Tuesday’s encounter.

Oss somehow managed to get his pass into the net instead of across the penalty area, where goalkeeper Pavels Steinbors had repositioned himself to get a better angle.
Not looking up, Oss played a blind pass too close to the goal and watched in horror as the ball trickled over the goal line and into the back of the net.
Oss kept his head down because he was ashamed after the comical own goal
His shocking effort stunned both groups of players as Liechtenstein celebrated wildly, while the Latvian players continued to reflect on Oss’ moment of madness.
The commentator was completely taken aback as he described the incident, saying: ‘Marcis Oss just played it back into his own goal.
‘ Pavels Steinbors expected to meet his own goal… and within 30 seconds Liechtenstein has a rare goal.
‘It would be funny if it weren’t almost so embarrassing for the defender and the goalkeeper, who are not on the same page at all.’
