In October, Latto and Nicki Minaj clashed on social media after the Anaconda rapper took to Twitter to complain about her single Super Freaky Girl being bumped from the rap category to the pop category at the Grammy Awards.

After initially criticizing the Grammys’ decision, the 39-year-old rapper/singer appeared to bring Latto into the discussion when he claimed his song Big Energy should have been moved to the pop category as well.

The tweet sparked a tug-of-war between the two artists that quickly escalated, with Latto mocking Nicki’s age and pointing out that her husband, Kenneth Petty, previously pleaded guilty to attempted first-degree rape in the 1990s.

Nicki’s complaints about the Recording Academy began on Twitter and with a video she posted to her Instagram Stories on Thursday.

She brought Latto up on his grievances with her initial tweet, which referenced the rising rapper’s song Big Energy: “I have no problem getting kicked out of the RAP category as long as we ALL get FAIR treatment.” If SFG has moved 2B, so will “Big Energy”! ANYONE saying differences is just a Nicki hater or troll.

In her Instagram video, she suggested she was being set up to fail by being nominated alongside artists as disparate as ‘Adele and Harry Styles’.

“They keep moving the goal posts when it comes to me, because so they can uplift people who want to shine,” he said. ‘The people these corporate giants can make money off of; the people who control a lot of things behind the scenes: they have to uplift someone they benefit from. They have to move the goal posts for me, all the time.

She added: “What do you think is going to happen when they start voting in these pop categories and it’s a bunch of these people… white and older, wherever they’re from” who have to choose between her and stars like Adele and Harry Styles.

Nicki also added in the video that Super Freaky Girl and Big Energy shared the same producers, which she saw as further evidence that both songs should have been considered pop if either of them were.

Latto was initially defiant and focused on his own success after noticing Nicki’s tweet about his song.

“Damn I can’t win by losing,” he tweeted, though he didn’t mention Nicki’s name or posts. “All these awards/nominations I can’t even celebrate.”

In a since-deleted tweet, Nicki responded, calling Latto ‘Karen’ while suggesting the younger rapper was ungrateful to an idol.
