Latrell Mitchell has thrown his support behind Ezra Mam after the Broncos star made an accusation of racism against fellow footy star Spencer Leniu.
An upset Mam told Brisbane officials he is adamant. Sydney Roosters propagandist Leniu racially abused him in the NRL season-opening double-header in Las Vegas.
In an incident that threatened to overshadow rugby league’s push into the US, Leniu was placed on report late in the Broncos’ 20-10 defeat at Allegiant Stadium.
The NRL have since confirmed they are investigating the matter, which could lead to Leniu being sent straight to the judiciary upon his return to Australia if he is charged.
Latrell Mitchell has demanded the NRL take action, posting on Instagram: “I stand with Bala. (The NRL) can handle this s*** better.

Mitchell was the victim of racist abuse by a fan in the crowd during a match against Penrith last year.
Native star Mam was heard telling referee Adam Gee, “He called me a monkey,” as other Broncos players also say, “He called him a monkey.”
Gee said he hadn’t heard the alleged slur himself and asked Mom if he wanted to make a formal complaint, to which Mom replied, “Yes, I do.”
When he is put on report by Gee, Leniu can be heard saying to the referee: ‘Why would I say that?’.
Leniu told Triple M after the match that he was ‘not worried at all’ and that the incident was ‘just fun and games on the pitch, that’s all’.
But Broncos coach Kevin Walters said Mom was certain racist comments had been made.
“He’s pretty upset in there,” Walters said.
“He’s adamant (there was a slur), but we’ll leave that to the NRL. They look at it.
‘We certainly support Ezra and our player and everything surrounding it.’
Broncos captain Adam Reynolds said he personally had not heard the slur but was shocked by the accusation.
“Today you wouldn’t think this still exists,” Reynolds said.

‘I was far away from it. But we support our player. He’s pretty upset in there.
“We are certainly not for racism and we will support Ezra and be around him, make sure he is okay.”
Sydney Roosters coach Trent Robinson said he had not yet spoken to Samoan Test representative Leniu about the allegation but said it was important a process was followed.
“He obviously filed the complaint, but that doesn’t mean it’s right,” Robinson said.
“It will go through the formal process as it should.”
The incident resulted in a brutal but entertaining win for the Roosters to start the season, in front of 40,746 fans at Allegiant Stadium.
