South Sydney has fined embattled star Latrell Mitchell a whopping $100,000 over the white fabric photos scandal, with $80,000 of that fine suspended.
The Rabbitohs’ heavy sanction comes after he was fined $20,000 by the NRL after the Integrity Unit concluded he had breached the sport’s code of conduct.
It followed a widely circulated image of a hotel room in Dubbo.
Mitchell has been ordered to pay $40,000 and it appears this is his last chance at the Rabbitohs as board members become concerned over numerous instances of questionable behaviour.
“This has been a very challenging time for everyone at South Sydney, including staff and management, coaches, players, members, supporters and Latrell himself,” said Souths CEO Blake Solly News Corp.
“The most important thing is that it has been very difficult for his family. That is not lost on Latrell.
‘He has shown great remorse and given us a solid commitment to improve himself, make better decisions and work towards becoming the best father he can be to his children, the best partner for Brielle and the player he can be for the Rabbitohs.’
Solly added that Mitchell, 27, has “taken full responsibility for his decisions and actions” and is committed to “making better decisions in the future.”

Meanwhile, it is understood it is up to the Rabbitohs’ medical staff to determine when Mitchell, who has not played since round 18, is fit and therefore available to serve his suspension this season.
The timing of the NRL’s one-match suspension for breaching the law has been a sore point in recent days.
The Rugby League Players’ Association had insisted that Mitchell serve his suspension immediately, despite interim coach Ben Hornby initially indicating that the fullback’s season was over due to his foot injury.
Less than two hours before the NRL concluded its investigation, Hornby backtracked on that claim.
The interim coach claimed that Mitchell could potentially be available for the final round of the season and therefore could serve his suspension in round 27.
The fullback began light training duties at Heffron Park on Thursday as the Rabbitohs made final preparations for Friday’s clash against reigning champions Penrith.
“He’s just trying to tick the boxes. There’s a small chance he could play next week if we need him to,” Hornby said.
“He has to show that he is in good enough shape to play a match.”
