Las Vegas journalist Jeff German, who was stabbed to death last month, likely died quickly from stab wounds to his neck and torso, according to a medical review of his autopsy.

German died with four sharp injuries to his neck, including one in his carotid artery.

“It’s usually there for 24 hours, and then it goes away,” he said. “It must have been there for quite some time.”

Jeff German, 69, was found dead at approximately 10:30 a.m. on Sept. 3 with seven stab wounds to his neck and torso outside his home near North Tenaya Way in Las Vegas.

He was pronounced dead at 12:55 p.m. on Sept. 3 after a neighbor discovered him behind the bushes in his side yard.

Former Clark County public administrator Robert Telles was arrested in connection with the death after police discovered DNA on Telles’ clothing matched DNA evidence under German’s fingernails.

Detectives have since matched a straw hat and sneakers worn by the suspect with a tattered hat and shoes found at the home of Telles’ Peccole Ranch.

The shoes were found behind a sofa in the living room and the torn hat in the garage.

Police officers and prosecutors in Las Vegas said Telles was “lurking” when he attacked the German outside his suburb.

German had previously written critical stories about Telles’ handling of his public office.

In September, Clark County Sheriff Joe Lombardo said the video of the stabbing had been recovered but the tape had to be cleared because it was “distorted.”

It was sent to the FBI in hopes it could be improved, and Lombardo said they planned to release its contents, though it wasn’t clear when Friday.

Telles is currently under protective custody at the Clark County Detention Center due to the high-profile nature of the crime he was arrested for.

Vegas police have yet to find a murder weapon for the stabbing.

Metro Captain Dori Koren and Sheriff Lombardo told the Review-Journal, for which German worked until the time of his murder, that they were not investigating any other suspects at the time.
