Larry Emdur reveals the secret behind his 35-year TV career: ‘It’s a real cat fight of a business’

Larry Emdur on Sunday shared his secret to maintaining a successful career in media for more than 35 years.

The Morning Show co-host, 59, revealed that his success ultimately came down to a positive attitude.

‘You can’t dictate the future in any way. One audition after another, those contracts can be for a period of a month or even an episode,” he said The Daily Telegraph.

‘I like to think I’ve been nice. When a show is stopped, people can show different levels of respect. I have always been grateful for every opportunity and have been a fair character in a real cat fight of a company.”

Emdur added that he made sure he had a successful performance that he could fall back on if he was no longer offered presenting work.

‘I learned very early that I couldn’t rely on TV. I am very interested in real estate, that is my side job. For many years of my life, in terms of bank balance, television was my part-time job.”

In 2021, Larry took over hosting duties at The Chase Australia and he wasn’t afraid to spend some of that earned salary by purchasing an abandoned block in Berowra Waters for $1 million.

It was the latest in a series of acquisitions by Larry and his wife of 29 years, Sylvie, who have quietly built up an impressive property portfolio in New South Wales in recent years.

According to The Daily Telegraph, Larry and Sylvie bought an ‘abandoned bushland block’ in Neverfail Bay.

The secluded estate, along the banks of Berowra Creek, is only accessible by boat and the plot of land, which last sold for $575,000 in 1999, was bought by the Emdur’s for $1 million.

In 2017, Larry and Sylvie sold their clifftop mansion in Dover Heights for a record $11.5 million to celebrity account Anthony Bell.

'You can't dictate the future in any way. One audition after another, those contracts could be for a period of a month or even an episode,” he told The Daily Telegraph. 'I like to think I've been nice. I have always been a reasonable character in a real corporate cat fight.”

The deal was by far the largest ever for a home in the sought-after beachside suburb, home to many wealthy socialites.

Larry and Sylvie met on a plane in the 1990s while she was working as a flight attendant.

They married in 1995 and have two children, son Jye, 28, and daughter Tia, 23.

In an interview for The Sunday Telegraph’s Body+Soul, the couple revealed they have a pact to create memories by doing something crazy every year for as long as they can.
