Larry David lashed out at CNN heavyweight Chris Wallace for asking him about his net worth, replying, “That’s your damn business!” in a testy on-air exchange.
In an interview with David for his weekly show ‘Who’s Talking to Chris Wallace’ about Max, the mainstream media legend covered a number of topics including politics, David’s public persona and of course ‘Curb Your Enthusiasm’.
But things got awkward when Wallace tried to ask David about the Hollywood fortune he had amassed over many successful decades in the industry.
Wallace said he had read online that David, the famous co-creator of “Seinfeld,” was worth about half a billion dollars.
David tried to sidestep the question for a moment by complaining that he had run out of water. But Wallace kept pushing the notoriously grumpy comedian.
Finally, David replied, “I’m going to say what you should have said to your father. None of your damn business. How about that? And that’s ridiculous. That is ridiculous.’
In an interview with Larry David for his weekly show ‘Who’s Talking to Chris Wallace’ on Max, the mainstream media legend got into a conversation with David about a question about the comedian’s net worth.
Wallace had said that his father, the famous American journalist Mike Wallace, often said that “people are fascinated by how much rich people are worth.”
David added that the number quoted by Wallace – roughly $500 million – is “so ridiculous.”
“How about $100 million,” Wallace said
“Okay, how about you shut up? Okay. How about you keep your mouth shut? Is that good?’ David replied.
“I have to say, you know, 100 interviews. No one has ever said that to me before,” Wallace said.
“Well, just shut up,” the grumpy comedian replied.
Later in the interview, Wallace admitted he was a little stung by being told to shut up.
David defended himself and said Wallace’s question had been rude: “What kind of question is that?”
The host said the question was “completely legitimate,” adding that the late Barbara Walters once said, “There’s no such thing as an indiscreet question.” There are only indiscreet answers.’
David called the saying a “good phrase” that is not true.
“I wonder how Barbara Walter would react… (if someone asked her), ‘Barbara, how many times a week do you have sex with your husband? Do you give him blowjobs?'” David gushed.
“Do you think she would like that?”
Wallace said Walters probably would have said it was none of his business, but “I don’t think she would have said shut up.”
“I really stabbed you with that,” David said.
The pair also delved into politics. David called presumptive Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump a “sociopath” and “such a little baby,” and how the late Barbara Walters would respond to an inappropriate question
The pair also got into politics, during a part of the conversation in which David predictably took a tough stance on presumptive Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump.
“You can’t go a day without thinking about what he did to this country, because he’s such a little baby that he threw 250 years of democracy out the window by not accepting the results,” he said.
“I mean, it’s so crazy. He’s such a sociopath. He’s so crazy. He just couldn’t admit he lost, and we know he lost, he knows he lost, and look how he fooled everyone. He convinced all these people that he didn’t lose,” he added.
The comedian’s anti-Trump leanings are well known, as he previously confronted his former friend, Trump impeachment lawyer Alan Dershowitz, on Martha’s Vineyard in 2021.
Dershowitz told Page Six that David was “yelling” and “yelling” at him. “I was afraid he was going to have a stroke.”
A source told the gossip column that David was particularly saddened that Dershowitz had hugged Trump’s former Secretary of State, Mike Pompeo.
‘No. No. We really can’t. I saw you. I saw you with your arm around Pompeo! It’s disgusting!’ David reportedly said.
Dershowitz explained that Pompeo was one of his former students at Harvard Law.
‘It’s disgusting. Your entire enclave is disgusting. You’re disgusting!’ David replied.
