Lara Trump’s dress designer slams liberal fashion snobs demanding boycott of Oscar de la Renta
A Cuban immigrant and couturier who dresses members of the first family is calling for a boycott of Oscar de la Renta for designing pre-inaugural dresses for Ivanka Trump and Usha Vance, in a major fashion ban.
Oscar Lopez — a Miami-based designer and favorite of Lara Trump, Kimberly Guilfoyle and other hot conservatives — called the liberal meltdown over the fashion house dressing GOP powerhouses “hypocritical” and “ridiculous.”
‘It is nonsense to call for a boycott; you don’t combine politics and art,” said the 52-year-old designer who escaped from communist Cuba in 2004. “They are all hypocrites and have their own agenda,” the feisty fashionista raged.
‘I don’t think they would want to boycott’ if Ella Emhoff had worn the icon designer’s dress, her stepmother Kamala Harris would have won the election instead of Trump.
Protestants probably don’t even appreciate their freedoms here in the U.S., Lopez added, emphasizing how grateful he is to be living the American dream by dressing members of the first family at a presidential inauguration.
“I came from a communist regime,” he said. “When people have everything, it’s easy to take things for granted,” he added about the unwarranted boycotts.
“It’s such a double standard.”
Lopez was “discovered” at Mar-a-Lago more than a decade ago and caught the attention of Lara, who took note of a design from one of Lopez’s clients. The rest is fashion history.
He designs iconic pieces for Lara Trump during historic moments — including a red, white and blue stunner on election night — and Monday’s inaugural balls.

And it has made him a target of self-righteous liberal activists, who are trying to shame him for being a gay man who works for the Trump family.
“They say, ‘How can you be gay and dress the Trump family?’ said Lopez, pushing back against the insinuation of homophobia. ‘I have always felt supported by the family for who I am.’
Lopez said he hasn’t come out in the weeks leading up to the inaugural festivities, where he was tasked with dressing a dozen women, including members of Congress, for the events.
He works with all demographics, of course – and is also a favorite of everyone from the avant-garde Miami crowd to religiously orthodox women looking for an understated chic look, and is often flown out by clients to society hotspots like NYC.
One of his favorite pieces was a dress for a client’s anniversary party, studded with LED lights, embroidered on the back with the words “I don’t give a shit” and featuring four layers of Tiffany blue tulle and seven layers of white tulle.
“I’m living the American dream,” he said after Trump’s swearing-in. ‘The best is yet to come.’
