Donald Trump daughter-in-law Lara Trump says she would “love” to serve in the Senate after her name was announced for the high-powered nomination to succeed Marco Rubio, Trump’s pick to be the next secretary of state.
“This is my home state now and has been for three years,” she told Fox News host Sean Hannity, a friend and adviser to the president-elect, during an appearance on his prime time show.
Donald Trump appointed his daughter-in-law co-chair of the Republican National Committee, and she cheered the Republican Party’s performance during a cycle that saw the party capture the White House and the Senate while holding a slim majority in the House of Representatives.
He regularly called his daughter-in-law on the campaign trail and noted in battlefield North Carolina that his granddaughter Carolina was named after Lara’s home state.
“I was really so honored to be co-chair of the RNC during the most historic election, I think, of our lifetimes,” she told Hannity.
She said she and her team “achieved everything we set out to do.”
“And if I am able to serve, I would like to serve the people of Florida as well. This is now my home state, and has been for three years. This is where Eric and I live, and it would be incredible to actually get that opportunity,” she said.
She then touted her bona fides as a MAGA candidate, on a day when senators were shocked by Trump’s announcement that he would nominate former lawmaker Matt Gaetz as attorney general, even amid a House ethics investigation into sex trafficking allegations that he has denied.
“If I am able to serve, I would also like to serve the people of Florida,” said Donald Trump daughter-in-law Lara Trump, after MAGA allies suggested she be appointed to the Senate to serve in part of Senator Marco Rubio’s duties. term after Trump nominated her as secretary of state
The nomination, along with Trump’s picks of Pete Hegseth to lead the Pentagon and former Rep. Tulsi Gabbard as director of National Intelligence, were signs that he plans to bend the Senate to his will as he wages a campaign against the ‘deep state’. ‘
Senators also elected John Thune as Republican leader on Wednesday, ousting the more MAGA-oriented Senator Rick Scott of Florida.
“No one knows better than me the America First agenda or Donald Trump’s goals for the next four years. So if I’m asked, I’d be happy to consider it, but I still have to have a conversation with Governor DeSantis, so we’ll have to see,” she said.
If and when Rubio steps down, it will be up to Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, a former bitter rival of Trump who supported him after their contentious primaries, to appoint a replacement to serve part of his term.
Lara Trump’s husband, Eric, is a Trump Organization executive who helped run the company during Trump’s first term.
He has not said how he plans to limit potential financial conflicts during his upcoming term.

Senator Marco Rubio is Trump’s choice to lead the State Department
Rubio’s choice has been well received by Republicans, as his experience at the agency he would help stacked up against Trump’s Cabinet picks that shocked Republicans on Wednesday.
“Leading the U.S. Department of State is an enormous responsibility and I am honored by the trust President Trump has placed in me,” Rubio wrote Wednesday after the announcement. ‘I will work every day to implement his foreign policy agenda.”
Whoever DeSantis chooses would serve until the 2026 special election. DeSantis, who may still harbor presidential ambitions despite ending his campaign against Trump after Iowa, must decide whether to appoint a “caretaker,” someone who would run couples to keep the seat, or even themselves.
Wrote Trump loyalist Anna Paulina Luna, “@LaraLeaTrump should be @GovDestantis’ nominated replacement for Rubio. She will keep the seat and avoid a messy primary for FLORIDA. Well spoken. A bull’s-eye for election integrity. Etc.’
