Lara Trump made to leave Fox News after dad-in-law Donald announced 2024 bid bans paid contributors

Lara Trump left Fox News in the wake of her father-in-law Donald’s announcement to run for the White House in 2024 thanks to a long-standing rule that prohibits tying contributors to active campaigns.

After his father-in-law, Donald Trump, announced his run for the White House in 2024 last month, he now rules out any further paycheck from the Republican-leaning news channel. Lara has effectively declared that she will be part of Trump’s final run for the White House with his decision to resign.

“We appreciate Lara’s valuable contributions to Fox News Media programming,” a Fox News Media representative said in a statement.

Lara became a paid contributor to the network last year.

Although their departure from the network is on good terms and per network protocol, former White House officials have typically been welcomed to appear as collaborators on cable networks.

“I feel like I’ve been an unofficial member of the team for so long. You know, it was kind of a joke for the last five years, I used to come there so often that the security guards said maybe we should give you a key. So to be a part of the team, I’m very, very excited,’ she told Fox & Friends as she eagerly joined in spring 2021.

Lara, who is married to Eric Trump, has not appeared on the network since Donald Trump announced his candidacy on November 15. However, she would still be allowed to appear on the channel without getting paid.

When Lara appeared on Fox News, she vigorously defended her father-in-law as the January 6 Committee investigated any involvement he may have had in the 2021 Capitol insurrection, as well as his recent handling of classified documents after leaving office.

Last month, Lara Trump appeared on Fox Business Network following her father-in-law’s announcement of her candidacy.

Presenter Stuart Varney told him: “I’m sure you’re very supportive of your father-in-law, but to those of us outside watching, he doesn’t seem like he’s got the old magic, you.” You know?’

Lara Trump responded: “Oh, well, I strongly disagree with that,” she said.

On-air criticism of Trump has been kept to a minimum on Fox News, but the pages of its sister publications The New York Post and the Wall Street Journal have been outspoken critics of Trump, his chances of winning and the impact a second term can have. .

It is widely known that the CEO of Fox Corporation, parent of Fox News, Rupert Murdoch, does not support the former president’s decision to make a third run for the White House.

Other Trump White alumni still appear on Fox News, including former press director Kayleigh McEnany, who co-hosts the daytime show Outnumbered. Political adviser Kellyanne Conway is still listed as a contributor.

Last year, Fox News terminated a contributor agreement with former White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders after she announced she would run for governor of Arkansas. Huckabee won her election in November.

Despite Trump’s setbacks, he remains the undisputed leader of the GOP with a loyal base of MAGA conservatives who are also Republican primary voters, making him a serious contender early on.

Yet Trump’s plans to build a campaign feel more like a minimal team of his loyal aides who ran his successful 2016 rather than the grand operation that led to his failed 2020 re-election.
