Lando Norris secures quickest time in final practice ahead of the Hungarian Grand Prix as he finishes 0.044 seconds clear of Oscar Piastri, with Max Verstappen in third place

  • Norris just beat teammate Oscar Piastri, with Max Verstappen in third

Lando Norris continued his impressive form at the Hungarian Grand Prix after setting the fastest time in final practice.

Norris, who was also the fastest driver at the Hungaroring on Friday, finished just 0.044 seconds faster than McLaren team-mate Oscar Piastri.

Max Verstappen was third, 0.281 seconds slower than Norris, with George Russell fourth in his Mercedes. Lewis Hamilton finished tenth.

Norris has had good chances to add to his sole victory, which he took earlier this season in Miami, but he has fallen short in recent rounds in Canada, Spain, Austria and the British Grand Prix.

However, he goes into qualifying as the favourite to secure his third pole position of his career.

At Mercedes, Hamilton ended his wait for victory at Silverstone two and a half years ago. But the seven-time world champion has so far failed to reach the top of the timesheets this weekend.

On Saturday, Hamilton also suffered an innocent spin after losing control of his Mercedes at Turn 10 with five minutes remaining. He finished the session 0.688s slower than Norris.

Qualifying for Sunday’s 70-lap Grand Prix starts at 16:00 local time (15:00 BST).
