Lando Norris hilariously BREAKS Max Verstappen’s Grand Prix trophy in Hungary as the McLaren driver pops his champagne on the podium – sending the prize flying

  • The title of Red Bull champion was won by McLaren star Lando Norris
  • Norris opened his post-race champagne by smashing his bottle on top of the trophy

Lando Norris celebrated his second place finish at the Hungarian Grand Prix by drenching Max Verstappen with champagne, but severely damaged the Red Bull star’s racing trophy in the process.

The iconic champagne spray is the crowning moment for the top three drivers at each GP and Norris joined Verstappen and third-placed Sergio Perez on the podium at the Hungaroring circuit.

In what can only have been an attempt to impress the crowd, Norris decided to open his bubbles by using Verstappen’s now-broken trophy as a makeshift bottle opener.

As Verstappen and Perez doused each other in fizz, the McLaren star grabbed his bottle and wandered down next to the artistic trophy presented to the race winner.

Norris uncorked and then lifted his bottle in the air with both hands before slamming it down onto one of the arms of Verstappen’s latest piece of silverware.

The champagne erupts and Norris immediately walks over to the duo to celebrate, as the trophy tumbles off the pedestal to the floor.

Norris seems unbothered by the events and decides to step over the still-rolling first place trophy before showering Verstappen with champagne on the back.

Enthusiastic supporters cheer while others scream in shock as they stand under the raised podium trying to catch a glimpse of the drivers.

Verstappen doesn’t seem to realize what has happened at the moment and continues to soak up the atmosphere after his 12th consecutive race win of the season.

However, once the bottles are emptied, the extent of the damage soon becomes apparent as Verstappen is pictured with his battered title.

The trophy is made of porcelain and was made by a manufacturer from Budapest who may be a little annoyed by Norris’s actions.

It was decorated with pink engravings to promote the new Barbie movie that has been released and sits on a matching base.

It has been suggested that each of the titles awarded to the top three finishers will cost around £40,000, although Verstappen’s may now be worth slightly less.

The F1 World Championship leader’s trophy had come loose from its base and has cracks along the bottom, although the part Norris was connected to appears to be intact.
