Landman fans divided over Season 1 finale that featured SHOCK surprise cameo by A-list movie star

Paramount Plus’ Landman wrapped up the first season with the finale on Sunday night and it received a lot of strong reactions from fans.

The series centers on Tommy Norris (Billy Bob Thornton), the “husbandman” of a fictional Texas oil company called M Tex, run by Monty Miller (Jon Hamm).

The show from Yellowstone creator Taylor Sheridan follows Tommy as he tries to balance his volatile work life in an increasingly dangerous profession with his family life with fiery ex Angela (Ali Larter), daughter Ainsley (Angela Randolph) and son Cooper ( Jacob Lofland). .

Landman proved to be an early hit, as Paramount Plus announced that 14.9 million households watched in its first four weeks, the biggest debut in the streaming service’s history.

While many fans wait for a season 2 announcement, the finale sets up a possible second season in a very intriguing way.

The ending of the finale introduces a surprising new character, and while many fans online were excited about the first season, just as many seemed underwhelmed as well.

All season long, Tommy has been feuding with a Mexican drug cartel. The opening footage of the series shows him tied up and trying to negotiate an oil land lease with a bag over his head.

While cooler heads eventually prevailed, local drug lord Jimenez (Alex Meraz) eventually had enough of Tommy and forcibly removed him from his car, torturing him in a secret location with the intention of killing him.

Before he could do that, Jimenez’s crew was taken out one by one, as the mystery attacker was eventually revealed to be Jimenez’s cartel boss Galino, played by Oscar-nominated actor Andy Garcia.

While Tommy faced aggression from Jimenez’s squad all season, Galino eventually realized that they both needed to coexist peacefully.

They eventually came to an agreement, with Galino even giving Tommy a warning before the police arrived.

This dynamic will certainly be interesting to explore in a second season, if Paramount Plus officially renews the show.

It’s also interesting because Tommy is elevated to president of the M Tex oil company after Monty was left incapacitated by his fifth heart attack… and it’s heavily hinted in the final moments of the finale that he died from that as well.

Fans didn’t hesitate to share their thoughts online about Andy Garcia’s surprise cameo and the season as a whole.

Still, others weren’t as impressed, like Randy Garcia (@RanSavage89), who said, “I don’t know why I’m watching. I guess it’s one where you just want to see how it ends, but I don’t feel like this show should have a season 2. The idea was great, the actual storyline not so much. Solid 5/6 out of 10.’

@Kev_Bik added: ‘Landman would be so much better without the two blondes. #fact every time the storyline comes their way I thank God for moving forward quickly,” referring to Angela and Ainsley.

@IAmSnazzyDaisy added: ‘The S01 finale gives us an idea of what to expect in S02, but overall it’s disappointing. So much screen time is wasted on the strip club as Ainsley/Ryder and Ariana delve into their memories and sort through Elvio’s belongings. FFS.”
