Jamie Lee Komoroski was commissioned to spend 25 years behind bars after he was guilty of causing the death of the newlywed Samantha Miller.
Komoroski, 27, plowed in Miller, 34, and her new husband Aric Hutchinson, 37, while the couple rode a golf cart after their wedding reception.
In her conviction, Komoroski said that she was ‘destroyed, deeply ashamed and terribly sorry’ for her actions, which also made Hutchinson seriously injured.
She received 25 years for a reckless murder attempt, 15 years for two charges of Duiken with a lot of physical injury and 10 years for a crime DIGRACTION, all served simultaneously.
However, she appealed at a court in South Carolina to reduce her sentence, Law & crime reported.
Her lawyers argued that the duration of the prison sentence is ‘unjustified and coarse disproportionate’ compared to other cases in the Lowcountry region, as well as ‘neighboring jurisdictions’.
They also claim that the judge has not considered different mitigating factors, including that Komoroski was in possession of her actions.
Analysis of similar cases in the area for crime Dui resulting in a death shows that penalties vary from nine to 18 years in prison.
