Lamborghini driver charged after allegedly mowing down a cyclist in the heart of a popular nightclub district

A Lamborghini driver has been charged after allegedly hitting a cyclist in front of shocked revelers in the heart of a nightclub district.

The 46-year-old cyclist was crossing Chapel Street in Prahran, Melbourne, when he was reportedly hit by a car around 10:30pm on Saturday night.

The crash happened just a few hundred yards from the Revolver Upstairs bar.

He was taken to hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries, police said on Sunday.

The 24-year-old driver of the white Lamborghini has been charged but is unharmed while the cyclist is treated in hospital

A 14-year-old passenger in the car was treated for minor injuries, while the 24-year-old driver was unharmed.

Footage from the scene shows the white Lamborghini behind police tape with hood damage and a shattered windshield.

Not far away, the crumpled bicycle is seen on the road.

The driver, from Sunshine West, was charged with dangerous driving causing serious injury and reckless endangering life.

He was released on bail to appear before Melbourne Magistrates Court on 16 October.

Chapel Street is one of Melbourne’s hottest nightclub districts, with over a dozen bars attracting thousands of revelers every Friday and Saturday night.

The street has an infamous reputation among cyclists and was voted the scariest place in Melbourne for motorcyclists in the 2020 Bikespot survey.

The municipality is considering separate bicycle paths and other bicycle safety measures on the key route.
