LaManna in Melbourne: I just found a beautiful hidden gem grocery store that’s better than Coles and Woolworths
Foodies are thrilled after discovering the ‘perfect’ supermarket in the heart of an Australian city – and thousands claim it easily beats Coles and Woolworths.
Fan-favorite Italian supermarket LaManna is located in Essendon Fields in Melbourne’s northwest.
Vince and Linda LaManna first visited the vacant building when it was nothing more than a post-World War II parts overhaul room, but their vision and dreams for a high-quality Australian supermarket came through clearly.
The family opened the store in 2010 hoping to make it a popular destination for Victoria shoppers. The supermarket now covers 10,000 square meters and offers a wide range of meat, deli, seafood, bakery, pastry items and groceries.
Featuring 100 percent Australian grown fruit and vegetables, LaManna is praised for its affordable prices and excellent specials, ranging from home-grown carrots to name-brand protein yogurt.
The couple’s children, Patrick, Tanya and Stefanie, have since taken over running the hotspot, but continue to offer their shoppers old-world charm and unparalleled customer service.

Jonathanfrom Melbourne, recently visited the venue for the first time and was amazed by the food on offer.
‘This place is every gym junkie’s dream. I’ve been told about LaManna many times, but I’ve never been there until today,” he said in one video.
Jonathan walked through the large room and wandered through the prepared meal area, which was filled with different cuisines.
The store had grain salads from the Middle East, Greece and Freekeh, accompanied by falafel and miso chicken meals.

There was also a selection of Thai and Indian curries, pastas, pizzas and soups.
“They have ready-made meals starting at just $5,” said Jonathan, who bought some Napoli pasta and butter chicken with rice.
“They also have lots of low-calorie, vegan and vegetarian options.”
He then explored the aisles of fresh fruit and vegetables and was pleasantly surprised by the reasonable prices.
“Stuff at LaManna is often much cheaper than at Coles,” another shopper revealed. ‘I do most of my shopping there every week.’
