Athletic goalkeeper Unai Simon rushed to get the referee's attention around the 15th minute after Granada fans told him about the problem with one of the supporters at the Los Carmenes Stadium.

The match lasted about five minutes, but was eventually stopped again as doctors continued to work on the ventilator.

Team doctors left their benches to try to help.

The match resumes on Monday evening from the 17th minute with Athletic taking a 1-0 lead.

Inaki Williams had given the visitors the lead in the sixth minute.

The match was stopped around the 15th minute when the referees were alerted to a problem in the stands.

As the individual received ongoing medical treatment for a suspected heart attack, the players were eventually removed from the field.

LaLiga later confirmed that the supporter had died and that the match would be rescheduled.

“Our condolences go out to their family and friends, but also to all Granada CF fans. A new date and time for the competition will be announced in the near future.”

'Athletic Club expresses its deepest condolences. Our thoughts are with the person's family and loved ones.”

After discussions between the clubs and the governing bodies, it was decided that the match would be moved to Monday, with the match restarting from the 17th minute.

A statement from the league read: 'At the request of LALIGA, the match judge of the RFEF (Royal Spanish Football Federation) has ruled that the Granada-Athletic match, suspended today due to the death of a fan during the match, will resume tomorrow – December 11 – at 9 p.m. The match resumes from the 17th minute.'
