Jack Bird, 16, had been missing since his boat capsized along Lake Mulwala, in Yarrawonga, on the New South Wales-Victoria border, on Sunday morning.

Emergency services began a frantic search before officers recovered a body at 6:30 p.m. Thursday.

A NSW police spokeswoman said the body had been found near Kiffins Bay.

“While the body has yet to be formally identified, it is believed to be that of the 16-year-old boy,” he said.

Jack had been fishing with a friend when their boat was hit by a wave forcing the couple overboard.

Two men swam to her aid and managed to bring one of the children to shore.

They then swam back to the water to try to rescue Jack, but were unable to find the 16-year-old.

The Victorian State Emergency Service, NSW Center for Maritime Safety, NSW Police and Victoria Police worked together to find the missing child.

Victoria Police Sergeant Major Nathan Ractliffe said windy weather conditions had made the search difficult.

Both children are understood to be from Shepparton and have traveled the 80km to Yarrawonga.

Mr. Bird was working as an apprentice before the tragic incident occurred.
