Los Angeles FC Kellyn Acosta had to point out to a reporter that he was not playing for MLS Cup rival Philadelphia Union in his pre-game press conference.

The midfielder spoke for LAFC’s clash with Philadelphia after their 3-0 win over Austin last week, but was mistaken for an opposing player.

A reporter asks, ‘How exciting is it to be in Philadelphia right now? The Phillies are in the World Series, the Eagles are undefeated and you’re playing in the MLS Cup. Has it sunk?

Acosta looks surprised and replies, “You’re just playing against a Philadelphia team, you say?”

The reporter tries to clarify, adding, “The excitement right now in Philadelphia. The Phillies are in the World Series, the Eagles are undefeated, and you’re also playing for the championship. How exciting is that for you? Has that sunk yet?

In the background you can hear someone say, “This is a LAFC player.”

Still confused, Acosta replies, “I don’t play for Philly.”

The reporter realizes his mistake and says, “I’m sorry.”

Acosta tries to minimize the embarrassment for the reporter by clarifying the situation and ending the awkward conversation: “Hey, but I think it’s exciting for them.”

Acosta’s LAFC will take on Philadelphia in the MLS Cup Final at 4 p.m. ET on Saturday, having racked up the most points in the regular season at 67.
