Los Angeles FC goalkeeper John McCarthy stunned a star-studded crowd at BMO Stadium with an incredible save in the first half on Sunday night.

LAFC hosted Inter Miami in the MLS on Sunday night as Lionel Messi looked to boost their playoff hopes.

The stars showed up at the City of Angels to catch a glimpse of the World Cup winner in action, but McCarthy denied them the chance to catch a glimpse of Messi finding the back of the net.

Towards the end of the first half, with Miami already leading 1-0 thanks to Facundo Farias’ opener, McCarthy made a sensational save to prevent Messi from doubling the lead.

The Argentinian was through on goal thanks to a sublime pass from Diego Gomez, with only McCarthy standing between him and the goal.

The shot stopper made a sensational save and denied Inter Miami superstar Lionel Messi

The actress and singer couldn’t believe her eyes as she watched in the BMO Stadium

Messi fired a shot from his magical left foot, but the LAFC shot-stopper sensationally managed to block the attack from close range.

It seemed that all the supporters gathered at the BMO Stadium thought there was no doubt that Messi had added another goal to his tally, including Selena Gomez.

The actress and singer, who released her new single Single Soon last week, looked shocked at the Apple TV broadcast.

Gomez couldn’t believe what she saw as she sat in the stands with her jaw down and her eyes wide.

However, McCarthy was not very lucky in the second half, as Messi’s former Barcelona teammate Jordi Alba did manage a shot past the goalkeeper to double the Herons’ lead.

Gomez joined a crowd of A-Listers as Messi headed to Hollywood for the first time since moving to Inter Miami in mid-July.

Prince Harry topped the list of notable names as he was seen laughing with LAFC co-owner and actor Will Ferrell, while Leonardo DiCaprio was also spotted in a suite.

However, Gomez chose to embrace the lively atmosphere with the real supporters as she sat in the stands with the 3252 – LAFC Supporter’s section.
