LAFC co-owner Will Ferrell reveals he had people begging for tickets to see Lionel Messi in MAY as actor Owen Wilson compares World Cup winner to NBA legend Michael Jordan
Los Angeles FC co-owner Will Ferrell described hosting Lionel Messi as an incomparable Sunday night.
Ferrell’s reigning MLS Cup winners played Inter Miami at home in the MLS on Sunday night, marking World Cup winner Messi’s first game in Hollywood since his successful move to David Beckham’s side in mid-July.
The Argentine has already made a huge impact not just in Miami, but across the league, sending ticket prices skyrocketing and screaming fans desperate for a glimpse of him in action.
And Ferrell hailed the effect the global superstar has had on football in the United States, revealing that months ago he had people begging for tickets.
‘Actually, there’s nothing quite like it. In May, people reached out to me… This is so cool for the MLS, this is so cool for LAFC and the whole league, it’s awesome!” Ferrell said on Apple TV’s pre-game broadcast.

“It’s a chance for the guys to really step up in this play-off atmosphere and show that he (Messi) may be one of the best players in the world, but we’re also one of the best teams.” .
“I’d bet money that the 3252 (LAFC Supporter’s section) won’t let anyone with a pink jersey (Inter Miami) get too rowdy, they’ll set the pace of what the atmosphere is like in this stadium.
“This is one of the coolest things I’ve been a part of (LAFC property), and I’ve been a part of a lot of special things – but this is special just because we got to share as a family what this team has meant for the MLS, what it has meant to the community here in LA and it’s really a point of pride.”
Despite being thankful for Messi’s positive impact, Ferrell still did not deem any possibility of the Herons beating his team and predicted a 3-2 result in favor of LAFC.
“Miami has to lose sometime, it might as well be here,” he said.
Ferrell, the star of the recently released movie Strays, also jumped at the chance to show off his championship ring by holding it up to the camera.
Ferrell was just one of many celebrities in attendance at BMO Stadium on Sunday night, with Prince Harry headlining the celebrity faces.
