On Thursday, the 65-year-old restaurateur, who owns Joanne Trattoria Italian restaurant on Manhattan’s Upper West Side, appeared on Fox Business Network’s Mornings to discuss crime and inflation in the city.

Host María Bartiromo asked the star’s father, who was born in Elizabeth, New Jersey, how he “feels” in New York, to which he had strong words.

He said: ‘I think the city is a mess. It looks horrible. People who come from Connecticut and Long Island, maybe they go to Lincoln Center to see a show…

‘So they’re walking around, it smells like weed everywhere. The city looks terrible, probably for four years. It is dirtier, there are many more people on the street. It looks disgusting.

He was asked about the city in the wake of a Quinnipiac University poll that showed 66% of voters believe crime in New York City is a problem.

The NYDP released crime data from January 30 to February 5 of this year, illustrating an increase in crime over a short period of time.

In February 2020, The Wall Street Journal reported that Joe was withholding $260k (£214.3k) in rent to the Metropolitan Transport Authority (MTA) for his other establishment, Art Bird & Whiskey Bar, which is located in Grand Central Station.

He explained at the time that he wanted to be released from his lease, which stands at $50k (£41.2k), as he could not afford to continue paying.

He then told The New York Post: ‘Homeless people go there to keep warm. We are compassionate, but it affects our customers. When homeless people invade our areas, it becomes a less attractive place.’

The news of Joe’s thoughts on the city comes after Gaga expressed kind words towards Taylor Swift after finding a resurfaced clip from her 2020 Miss Americana documentary on TikTok.

The Poker Face hitmaker, 36, called her fellow singer, 33, “really brave” for speaking out vulnerablely about an eating disorder in the past.
