Gaga has been in the news for her tribute to her boyfriend Tony Bennett, who passed away on July 21 at the age of 96.

“I will miss my friend forever. I will miss singing with him, recording with him, talking to him, being on stage together. With Tony I have to live my life in a time warp. Tony & I had this magical power,” she wrote on social media.

This comes after she said she wanted to be known by a different name during her time on the film set of ‘Joker: Folie a Deux’.

The pop star – who was born Stefani Germanotta – plays the Joker’s henchman Harley Quinn in the new movie opposite Joaquin Phoenix as Batman’s nemesis and now cinematographer Larry Sher has revealed that the singer stayed in character when the cameras weren’t rolling and wanted to be called Lee.

Speaking on “The Trenches TV” podcast, Sher explained that he struggled to bond with the leading lady until he found out he had been calling her the wrong name. He explained, “I feel like I never really met her, not even on the makeup hair test.” Because, again, maybe my philosophy is to never try to get into their space.

And then I remember thinking for about a week, ‘God, I feel like we disconnected, not even a connection. We are like on opposites’. And I’d say to my crew like, ‘Jesus, I can’t crack it. I feel like she hates me, or we hate each other, or something strange is going on here.”

However, it all changed after he knew what the singer wanted. He added, ‘Then at one point the AD (assistant director) said, ‘Oh, you know Stef would love it if you just call her Lee on set’.

“And I thought, ‘Oh, 100 percent.’ And then I literally said like the next thing I said was something Lee was, and it was like everything changed.

“From that moment on, it was like our whole band changed. I was like, okay cool, that’s all I needed to know.”

Lady Gaga’s co-star Phoenix is known for staying in character while working on movies, but Sher revealed that the actor approached him on the second day of shooting and explained what was going on.

He said of the Oscar winner, “(Phoenix said sorry) that I’m a bit weird, I just have to stay ((in character).”
