Lachlan Carslake: Partner’s heartbreak after Adelaide tradie killed at work in horror accident
The grieving partner of a professional who died in a terrible industrial accident opens up about the loss of her “whole person.”
Lachlan Carslake, 28, suffered serious head injuries while operating machinery at Nylastex Engineering Solutions in Adelaide’s south-west last Wednesday.
He was rushed to Flinders Medical Centre where he was put on a ventilator. He died three days later, surrounded by his loved ones.
His partner Tahlia Benvegnu-Carslake expressed her grief in a series of heartbreaking messages on social media.
She also shared poignant photos of their final moments together at his hospital bedside.
“I have lost my person, my Lachlan, my eternity,” Mrs Benvegnu-Carslake began.
‘This isn’t fair. How am I supposed to do this? He wasn’t my other half, he’s my whole person, he knows me better than I know myself.
‘I will never be able to hold his hand, hug him or kiss him, feel his warmth and safety.

Mr Carslake’s distraught partner, Tahlia Benvegnu-Carslake, wrote of her grief in a series of heartbreaking Facebook posts
“I’ll never hear him say ‘I love you so much, baby’ again or talk to him and have him talk back to me. How am I supposed to do this now?”
In another touching post, she admitted that she is still waiting for Mr Carslake to come in, even though he is no longer there.
“I miss holding your hand, I miss your hugs. I miss talking to you and hearing you talk. I have to lay in our bed alone, it hurts,” she wrote.
Mrs Benvegnu-Carslake wrote about the things they cannot do together.
“I can’t travel, explore, fish, and grow old with you.”

She told Mr. Carslake, “You can’t live all the life you had ahead of you, all your plans and dreams.”
Mrs Benvegnu-Carslake concluded her message by expressing regret over the tragic loss of her partner.
‘Life is cruel and keeps going on, while you would rather go back in time.’
a GoFundMe was set up to support Mr Carslake’s family ‘as they grieve during this heartbreaking time’.
The page revealed that Mr Carslake’s legacy will live on as he has agreed to organ donation.
According to GoFundMe, the money raised will go towards the family’s living expenses in Adelaide while “they continue to research and plan his funeral.”
“Any additional resources will help ease the financial burden of weekly bills during this terrible time.”
The page has raised nearly $9,500 in just a few days.
SafeWork South Australia launched an investigation into the workplace, which was closed after a number of statutory notices were issued.
A report is also prepared for the coroner.
