LA Dodgers pitcher Julio Urias is placed on administrative leave by MLB following his arrest near LAFC’s stadium after being named on the guest list with Prince Harry to see Lionel Messi play

Los Angeles Dodgers pitcher Julio Urias was placed on administrative leave by MLB on Wednesday, three days after he was arrested on suspicion of domestic violence.

Urias was arrested Sunday night near LAFC’s BMO stadium after being named on a star-studded list of celebrities who attended to watch Lionel Messi play, including Prince Harry, Leonardo DiCaprio and Selena Gomez.

MLB opened an investigation into the arrest and the veteran, who is not with the Dodgers on their six-game road trip, was placed on administrative leave before his scheduled start on Thursday.

Exposition Park public security said officers arrested Urias around 11 p.m. Sunday at the park, which houses BMO Stadium, where Messi and Inter Miami played LAFC. That would be about an hour after the end of the game, with full playtime coming around 10pm.

Urias posted $50,000 bail and was released shortly before 5 a.m. Monday, according to Los Angeles County Sheriff’s booking records. He is due to appear in court on September 27.

Prince Harry was one of the stars watching the game in Los Angeles on Sunday evening

The 27-year-old Mexican-born pitcher was arrested in May 2019 for domestic injuries. Urías was suspended for 20 games by the MLB, but was not prosecuted by the Los Angeles City Attorney on the condition that he complete a 52-week domestic violence counseling program.

Under the policy, players are typically placed on administrative leave by the league during an investigation, which happened to Urias before his suspension in 2019.

No player has ever received two separate suspensions under the MLB policy instituted in 2015.

Urías is the second star player on a battling team under investigation by the MLB in recent weeks after Tampa Bay Rays shortstop Wander Franco was placed on administrative leave while authorities in the Dominican Republic investigated him for an alleged relationship with a minor.

A 20-game winner in 2021 and National League ERA leader (2.16) in 2022, Urias is 60-25 with a 3.11 ERA in 158 games (122 starts) since making his MLB debut with the Dodgers in 2016. He helped LA will win the World Series in 2020 and finished third in the NL Cy Young voting last season.

Urias pitches this season on a one-year, $14.25 million contract and will become an unrestricted free agent after this season.
