LA Dodgers lose Gavin Lux in bombshell trade with Cincinnati Reds

Gavin Lux has been traded from the World Series champion Los Angeles Dodgers to the Cincinnati Reds in a huge offseason move, according to reports.

The 27-year-old infielder has only played for the Dodgers in his career. He made his debut in 2019 and won his first World Series against the Yankees in October.

He was linked with a move to the Bronx in the offseason, but ESPN’s Jeff Passan reports that the Cincinnati Reds are now finalizing a deal to acquire him.

As part of the trade, the Dodgers will receive outfield prospect Mike Sirota and a Competitive Balance Round A pick — approximately No. 37 overall, per Passan.

Lux’s future was up in the air after the Dodgers announced the surprise signing of utility man Hye-seong Kim last week.

Lux was the team’s No. 1 prospect in 2020 but missed an entire season with an ACL tear and struggled in spring training last year.

The Dodgers opted to keep him at second base through 2024, but his .251 average and .703 OPS at the plate were markedly different than most of his superstar teammates.
