LA couple whose car tires and suspension were ruined by potholes are ordered to stop fixing them by city officials, after spending their own cash on bags of asphalt

A Compton couple has been ordered to stop patching potholes in their neighborhood or face penalties from the city.

Daisy De La Rosa, 29, and her husband Alex, 35, became so tired of the damage potholes on their local roads were doing to their car that they decided to take action.

The couple, who rely on their car to work as contracted couriers, had suffered blown tires and broken suspension.

Finally, after another flat tire, they drove to Home Depot, bought $400 worth of asphalt and fixed five potholes on their street. the LA Times reported.

Their neighbors were delighted, the couple told the publication, and even asked for more holes in the dilapidated streets to be filled.

Daisy De La Rosa, 29, said the city is ‘angry at us because we basically embarrassed them’

City officials were not very impressed and sent the De La Rosas a cease and desist order on March 14

However, city officials were less than impressed and sent the De La Rosas a cease and desist order on March 14.

“Your actions have raised serious concerns as they threaten public safety and the integrity of our city’s infrastructure,” the letter said, as reported by the Times.

“It is imperative that all maintenance and repair work on public roads is carried out in accordance with established regulations and procedures to ensure the safety and welfare of our residents and visitors,” the report said.

“(The city) is mad at us because we basically embarrassed them,” Daisy told the Times, claiming they had to fill in the potholes because the city had allowed the roads to deteriorate so badly.

Now the public-spirited couple could face fines, fines and “possible liability for damages,” according to the city’s letter.

However, Daisy told the Times that they have no plans to stop and have even received generous donations from community members to continue their work.

The couple has set up a GoFundMe to support the project and has raised $1,300 so far.

“We have been begging the city for help, but they can’t keep up,” Daisy wrote on the page.

“Many of us work hard and can’t afford these expensive repairs.”

Adding, “My husband and I have taken matters into our own hands and are filling in the gaps ourselves.”

Local businesses have also contributed to the couple’s efforts.

Road Soup and American Road Patch donated items and visited the neighborhood to see the couple’s work.

“While we budget annually for street repairs, our Public Works Department is currently severely understaffed,” the city said in a statement.

Adding, “Addressing infrastructure issues remains a top priority for the City of Compton. We emphasize the importance of safety and urge residents to continue reporting traffic issues.”

“Today, after the entire neighborhood was angry about this gigantic pothole that has been destroying cars and bikes for weeks, I went out with my team to fix it,” Schwarzenegger said in a tweet at the time.

“I always say, let’s not complain, let’s do something about it,” he added.
