Tragedy as 16-year-old L-plater dies after his Honda station wagon ran off the road and crashed into a tree on a country lane

A teenager was tragically killed after crashing his car into a tree on Easter Sunday morning.
Police and emergency services rushed to the scene on Lake Plains Rd, near Langhorne Creek, 40 miles (64 km) southeast of Adelaide, about 2:35 a.m. after a Honda station wagon went off the road.
The driver, 16-year-old Johnny Howieson from Strathalbyn, died at the scene.
The teenager, who had been on his L-plates, is remembered as a talented student and accomplished athlete.
A classmate from Eastern Fleurieu School said he was shocked to learn of Johnny’s death, describing him as “a nice guy” who was “always up for a chat.”

“He was one of the smartest kids in school,” the classmate said The advertiser.
Other students said Johnny’s death sent shockwaves through the community.
“He was good in class and he would help with anything,” said one.
Alexandrina Council Mayor Keith Parkes offered his condolences to the teen’s relatives and friends.
“I cannot imagine the grief and sorrow the family and friends must be experiencing,” Mr Parkes said.
“Very sad to lose a young life at any moment.”
The boy is the 43rd death on South Australian roads this year, compared to 20 at the same time last year.
On Good Friday, four people died and another was taken to hospital after a horrific car accident involving a Mitsubishi Triton ute and a Ford Ranger ute.

Police were called at around 6.45am after reports of an accident during heavy rain on the Barton Highway near Casuarina Lane in Jeir, about 30 km south-east of Yass and midway between the ACT village of Hall and the NSW town of Murrumbateman.
Police said the driver of the Mitsubishi, a 52-year-old woman, and the front passenger, a 54-year-old man, died at the scene.
Emergency services from the ACT and NSW – including three rescue helicopters – arrived shortly after the collision.
The driver of the Ford and his passenger in the back seat were trapped in the wreckage and were treated at the scene by paramedics.
They were eventually freed from the vehicle with the help of NSW Fire and Rescue, but sadly both died on the spot.
