Kyra Sedgwick and Kevin Bacon promote the Food Bank for New York City on local television: ‘We need to be responsible for our community’

Kevin Bacon and Kyra Sedgwick presented a united front as they drew attention to an issue close to their hearts in New York on Friday.

The actor, 65, who stars in the new Netflix thriller Leave the World Behind with Julia Roberts, Ethan Hawk and Mahershala Ali, joked that “if you stay until the end, you'll see me” in an interview on Good Day New York.

The couple was there to promote the good works happening at the Food Bank for New York City. Kyra, 58, is a member of the charity's board.

The New York City Mayor's Office of Food Policy reported that an estimated 14 million people, or 14.6 percent of New York residents, were food insecure. In the United States, the U.S. Department of Agriculture has found that about 17 million families, or 1 in 8 American households, struggle to have enough to eat.

'We live in one of the richest cities in the world and how is that possible?' the Closer star asked.

“I don't think it's something that people want to talk about, food insecurity, and I think people are ashamed of that in a way, but I also think people aren't aware that there are going to be so many New Yorkers. hungry,” she explained.

The Emmy winner arrived in a navy blue suit with a long jacket and wide-leg pants and a red and white blouse.

His salt and pepper hair was parted at the side and he sported a silver moustache, perhaps grown for his upcoming role in The Bondsman, in which he will play a resurrected bounty hunter who gets a new chance at “life, love and his almost – forgotten musical career,” according to IMDB, “only to discover that his old job has now taken a demonic new turn.”

The City on a Hill actor admitted that his and Kyra's celebrity helped draw attention to their efforts at the food bank.

“It's a very light lift for us to do things like that and it's really more about us trying to be somewhere where there will be cameras to highlight the good work that everyone is doing at the food bank,” he explained out, adding that the organization has a party in Harlem and also a warehouse in the Bronx.'

Kyra described the Food Bank for New York City as a “joyful place” and said those unfamiliar with it may be surprised by the variety of people turning to the organization for help.

“People come to eat and there are a lot of families,” she said.

'What strikes me is that there are a lot of students, boys dressed in suits with their short suitcases, and that is very broad.'

The couple who participated in the March to End Fossil Fuels, stood on the picket line during the actors' strike and worked to prevent gun violence say they feel obligated to help.

“As good citizens, we have to be responsible for our community, and our community is made up of a lot of hungry New Yorkers and a lot of New Yorkers who just need support,” Kyra said.
