Five police officers were taken to hospital as a precaution after a man died during an arrest.
Officers attended a home on Windridge Way in Kyneton, central Victoria, at 2.30pm on Tuesday as part of an investigation.
They arrested a 27-year-old man before he became unwell and unresponsive.
Officers tried to resuscitate the man, but he died at the scene.
It is believed that the man ingested a poisonous substance.
Five police officers were taken to hospital as a precaution.
Police said in a statement that detectives from the homicide squad will investigate the incident under the supervision of Professional Standards Command.
This is standard procedure when someone dies in police custody.
