Much-loved dad killed in a horrific four-vehicle crash identified

A beloved father has been named as the man killed in a four-vehicle crash in Adelaide on Tuesday.

Motorcycle racer Kym Liebig, 58, was riding in his black Suzuki home on South Road near Hindmarsh on the city’s outskirts when he was hit.

A white Holden Commodore traveling south is said to have crashed through a central reservation fence, 7News reported.

The Commodore is said to have turned onto the wrong side of the road at around 3.50pm on Tuesday and ended up in the path of the motorcycle and two other vehicles.

Mr. Liebig got off the bicycle, witnesses said, and was then run over by a Mazda car.

Emergency services attempted to resuscitate him upon arrival, but were unable to save him.

His distraught wife Prudence posted an online tribute, writing: ‘When I got home my sweet Kym was murdered. He’s gone, I’m broken.’

Mr Liebig was an experienced rider who was well known in South Australian motorcycle circles.

The South Australian Road Racing Community said in a statement: “We are heartbroken by the loss of Kym.”

“He was more than just a talented racer, he was someone who brought warmth and generosity to the paddock and was always known for his big heart.”

A witness to the crash said the sound “was like a bomb going off.”

The Commodore driver, a 44-year-old man from Park Holme, 8km southwest of Adelaide’s CBD, was arrested at the scene by officers from Major Crash.

He was charged with causing death by dangerous driving and granted bail.

The man is due to appear in the Adelaide Magistrates Court on March 19.
