Kylie Minogue ‘believes she was duped’ into appearing on ‘last-ever’ episode of Neighbours

Kylie Minogue ‘believes she was tricked’ into appearing in ‘final’ episode of Neighbors and Guy Pearce calls it a ‘waste of time’ as that show comes back to life on Amazon

  • Guy Pearce, 55, who played Mike Young, said the show’s finale was ‘hard to watch’
  • Kylie Minogue, 54, has a ‘bump’ about the finale and felt ‘duped’ for acting in it

It was the springboard that launched their hugely successful career, so when they announced last year that Neighbors would be axed after 37 years, the stars of the show loyally flocked back to Ramsay Street for a smashing finale.

But now some are furious after it emerged that the Aussie soap is being revived on streaming giant Amazon.

Hollywood actor Guy Pearce, who returned for the final three episodes before Channel 5 pulled the plug on the show, was the first to lash out at the production chiefs.

The 55-year-old, fondly remembered for his role as the brooding, gut-wrenching Mike Young, bitingly remarked of the alleged finale: “It’s hard to watch, isn’t it?

“Knowing we’ll never see an episode again? A painful reminder that the things we love can be snatched away, never to return.

“Unless Amazon comes to save the day and make our final look like a rather expensive exercise.”

He added, “I don’t want to say it’s a waste of time. But still.’

Meanwhile, sources in Melbourne, where Neighbors was filmed, have revealed that Kylie Minogue – whose career took off when she played mechanic Charlene Robinson between 1986 and 1988 – also felt she had been ‘tricked’ into going back.

One told The Mail on Sunday: “It seems Kylie is a bit bothered. It’s a question of why she and others have bothered to go back. She and the others were told it was the end.

“She knows she owes Neighbors and she always would have, but it all seems a little baffling.”

Ms Minogue, 54, returned for the final episode last July alongside Jason Donovan who played her husband Scott.

Another former Ramsay Street actress, Margot Robbie, who is about to star in the movie Barbie, shot a video for the episode from Los Angeles.

She tried to change her schedule so she could travel to Australia to film, but when this proved impossible, she sent 37 bottles of champagne – one for each year the show was on the air.

The source added: ‘Imagine if Margot had managed to swing it so she could travel from Hollywood to Melbourne and it still came back? She would have been furious.’

Other Neighbors veterans who appeared in the finals last year included Natalie Imbruglia and Holly Valance.

Last year it was announced that Neighbors would no longer be filmed after Channel 5 and the Fremantle production company failed to strike a new deal.

However, last month it was confirmed that Amazon Freevee would be bringing the show back.
