Kylie Kelce speaks out on Harrison Butker’s commencement speech as she addresses controversial ‘homemaker’ remark
Kylie Kelce has spoken out about the recent controversy surrounding Harrison Butker after the Kansas City Chiefs kicker suggested women should prioritize being “housewives.”
Butker, who helped the Chiefs win a second straight Super Bowl in February, sparked outrage last month with his divisive speech at Benedictine College.
In addition to targeting the LGBTQ+ community and abortion advocates, the 28-year-old was accused of sexism after telling the female graduates in attendance that raising children should give them more excitement in life than any potential career then.
These comments sparked intense debate last month; with several high-profile figures condemning Butker and others, claiming his comments had been blown out of proportion.
Now that the dust has settled, Kelce – the wife of Philadelphia Eagles legend Jason – has given her the chance to take it on.
Kylie Kelce has given her opinion on Harrison Butker’s controversial ‘housewives’ speech
“I think everyone is entitled to their own opinion,” Kylie said of Butker during an interview with Cheddar.
“I hope that if someone in the graduating class does not share these views, he or she will know that he or she has just achieved something that no one can take away from them. Their education will stay with them for the rest of their lives.
“I hope they were celebrated appropriately if that wasn’t their view, and if it was and they’re looking forward to starting a family and being a stay-at-home mom, then more power to them.”
She added: ‘I think as women we need to support each other in our choices and make sure we feel like we can do what we want to do. So hopefully those graduating women know that I am very proud of them, and I hope they continue to do what makes them happy.’
