Kylie Gillies surprises her mother with a special engagement ring ’50 years in the making’

The Morning Show’s Kylie Gillies Surprises Her Mother With A Special ’50 Years In The Making’ Engagement Ring Following The Death Of Her Loving Father Ron

Kylie Gillies surprised her mother with a stone engagement ring her father gave her 50 years ago.

The Morning Show host shared a video on Instagram Sunday of the emotional moment her mother saw the sapphire ring.

‘A story 50 years in the making. In the 1970s, my dad gave my mom a sapphire. A loose stone – from Inverell. He stayed wrapped up in a little brown envelope in mommy’s drawer for decades,” Kylie explained.

‘I recently asked him why. She said, “Well, we’re not the type of people to make jewelry for ourselves. And I guess there were always other priorities.”

I’m sure those other priorities were me and my sister. All those things that young girls need. And want! And mom and dad never put themselves first.

Kylie explained that she decided to make the sapphire into an engagement ring after the death of her father Ron.

‘So with Dad’s recent passing, our thoughts turned to that sapphire. Mom said that Dad had always loved them and he actually wanted Mom to have a sapphire engagement ring. That was in 1963. We thought it was time to do something.’

In the video, Kylie’s emotional mother breaks down as she opens the jewelry box to see her ring for the first time.

Kylie’s father Ron passed away in August 2021 after celebrating his 91st birthday.

The 54-year-old revealed the news of his passing on Instagram, saying the entire family was “heartbroken” along with a photo montage of happy memories.

“Our dear daddy,” Kylie began. ‘A much loved husband to my mother for 57 years and a grandfather to four adoring grandchildren.

“We are heartbroken but grateful. You took care of us all for so long. Ron Mills 10.8.1930 – 31.8.2021.’
