Kylie Gillies’ cutting on-air Logies comment about Sunrise presenter Matt Doran ‘disappearing’ causes a stir on Channel Seven
- Doran didn’t show up for work in June
- Kylie Gillies made a joke to the presenter on Tuesday
Matt Doran’s fellow Sunrise presenters have made a brutal dig at the presenter after he famously disappeared while at work.
Kylie Gillies revealed that she was a bit worse after the Logies on Saturday night and had to take a nap on Sunday afternoon so she could stay awake and watch the Matildas against Canada.
Her co-hosts burst out laughing at Gillies’ noticeably hoarse voice when Doran joked “we’re doing a good job putting out a show.”
Gillies fired back, “Well, at least we saw Matt, right?”
Her fellow presenters all shouted ‘ooh’ at the same time. Doran made a sour face before laughing along with the joke.
The swipe came after Doran sparked a frantic police search when he went missing on a work assignment in the NSW Hunter Valley in June.
The star reporter was sent to cover a bus crash at a wedding that killed 10 people, but he failed to show up for his 5:30 a.m. shift on June 13.
Insiders said that when producers went to find Doran at his hotel in Singleton, he knocked on his door when there was no answer.
The high-profile crime reporter was last seen at a local soccer field on Monday afternoon speaking to members of the Singleton community.
“He seemed distracted when he was interviewing. He didn’t want to be there,” a source told the Daily Mail Australia at the time.

Previously, local residents had seen Doran leave the home of newly married couple Mitchell Gaffney and Maddy Edsell, whose marriage was at the center of the tragedy.
When the reporter failed to answer calls, texts and emails ahead of his scheduled appearance on Tuesday’s Sunrise, a producer went to check his hotel room.
Concerned colleagues contacted the police, who issued a missing person alert.
Doran was eventually found in a nearby cafe and was quickly replaced by his colleague Liam Tapper on the air.
Insiders say several factors may have contributed to his troubling behavior, one of which suggests Doran may have been struggling with the confrontational nature of the bus crash tragedy.
Doran took several weeks of personal leave after disappearing in the Hunter Valley and reportedly spent time at home “putting his health first.”
