Kylian Mbappe is handed a TWO out of ten in L’Equipe’s brutal ratings as they savage his ‘nightmare’ display after PSG crashed out of the Champions League against Dortmund… with FOUR players given a three

Kylian Mbappe has been pummeled by L’Equipe in their infamous ratings after his PSG side were dumped out of the Champions League in the semi-finals by Borussia Dortmund.

Mbappe is regarded as one of the best players in world football but he was helpless as a brilliant Dortmund side built on their 1-0 lead in the first leg and set the same scoreline in Paris with an impressive performance.

Mats Hummels’ second-half goal was enough to secure a 2-0 aggregate victory and put the unpredictable German side into the final at Wembley on June 1, where they will face Real Madrid or Bundesliga rival Bayern Munich.

Mbappe came close to the scoresheet late in the match when his goal hit the crossbar – the third time on the night that Luis Enrique’s men have hit the woodwork – as they were left to rue their poor finishing.

And L’Equipe – the French newspaper that makes notoriously bold statements about every player’s performance – did not leave PSG alone as they circled Mbappe after failing to produce the goods.

The forward was rated just two out of 10 as they declared what was likely to be his last Champions League game against PSG ultimately turned into a ‘nightmare’, stating he was ‘technically vulnerable’ and dominated by Hummels.

‘His last match against Paris [the Champions League] “It looked like a nightmare,” it said. ‘Installed on the left side, the attacker was technically infinitely vulnerable for a long time. Dominated in the game by Hummels, he almost never went one-on-one.

‘He missed his shot from close range [36th minute] and narrowly missed the shot that hit the crossbar [86th minute]. Ultimately, it was his returning crosses that made him most dangerous. That’s so little for a Ballon d’Or candidate…’

Joining Mbappé in the club of two out of ten was fellow striker Ousmane Dembélé, who was called ‘messy and disappointing’ by L’Equipe.

The French outlet said Mbappe’s last Champions League match against PSG was a ‘nightmare’ and called him ‘technically vulnerable’ when he conceded a two.

‘He has, sometimes single-handedly, embodied the Parisian offensive [philosophy] in the past months. But [here] it was messy and disappointing. With too much waste in his passing game, dribbling [was] often inefficient. And finally? Creativity at half mast. Very close [earning] a fine [65th minute].’

Elsewhere, four players received a three out of ten, as L’Equipe continued to press hard on the team.

Defender Lucas Beraldo was criticized for losing the ball ‘dangerously’ before being accused of losing Hummels before scoring from a corner.

Midfielder Warren Zaire-Emery ‘looked his age’ at 18 and ‘lacked intensity’ in his duels with other players. Fabian Ruiz also received a three for his ‘questionable contribution’, while Goncalo Ramos was also attacked.

The highest score was a seven, which Vitinha received after he “never stopped going” and demonstrated an “impeccable” state of mind.
