Arizona Cardinals head coach Johnathan Gannon praised quarterback Kyler Murray’s preparation during his eventual return to the field while speaking to reporters on Wednesday.

“Excited and ready to go,” Gannon said when asked about Murray’s attitude as he prepared to play for the first time in 11 months.

Murray is entering his third week of practice after missing the start of the year while recovering from a torn ACL suffered late last season.

‘Very good during the team meeting today. I put him on the spot. He was outstanding,” Gannon also said, praising his signal caller.

Although considered unlikely, Murray has a slim chance of taking the field for the first time this season in Sunday’s game against the Cleveland Browns.

If Murray doesn’t return this week against the Browns, he will likely take the field in Week 10 against the Atlanta Falcons.

Arizona is set to start rookie QB Clayton Tune if Murray doesn’t suit up against Cleveland.

Tune would start about former Cardinals QB Josh Dobbs, who was traded to the Minnesota Vikings in the wake of Kirk Cousins’ season-ending Achilles injury.

The Cardinals drafted Tune in the fifth round with the No. 139 overall pick.

Despite looking good in practice, it may be in Murray’s best interest to delay his first start of 2023 until the game against the Falcons so he can get a full four weeks of practice before returning to action.

Four full weeks would give Murray the equivalent of an entire preseason to get up to full speed, minus the practice games against other teams.
