Kyle Walker makes Man City’s Champions League final squad despite missing training with back injury

Kyle Walker makes Man City’s Champions League final squad despite missing training this week with a back injury, with Pep Guardiola in full strength ahead of Istanbul’s clash with Inter Milan

Manchester City have announced a full squad to travel to Istanbul for the Champions League final.

The Premier League and FA Cup champions – looking for a historic Treble on Saturday – have no surprise absences, with Kyle Walker fit enough for a spot in place to Turkey.

The England defender missed training on Tuesday with a back problem as City stepped up preparations.

However, the 33-year-old played down concerns about his fitness and insisted nothing would stop him from starring in Istanbul’s showpiece.

It’s the strongest possible squad Pep Guardiola has at his disposal, without worrying about injury in his bid to win City’s first-ever Champions League trophy.

In goal, Ederson is likely to take the gloves, with Stefan Ortega – who fell between the posts against Manchester United on Saturday – and veteran Scott Carson on the bench.

Walker joins his teammates in defence, with eight players in the back, although John Stones may continue to play in midfield.

Only six midfielders are included in the squad, with Maximo Perrone being the cut and versatile youngster Cole Palmer joining Rodri, Kevin de Bruyne and Ilkay Gundogan.

And six attackers will be on a plane to Turkey, unsurprisingly led by Erling Haaland with 52 goals.

City will take on cup specialists Inter in the showpiece final, after the Italians defeated Serie A winners Napoli in the last eight and arch-enemy AC Milan in the semi-finals.

This season, Simone Inzaghi’s side have won the Coppa Italia and Supercoppa Italiana, with the coach taking his unbeaten record to seven finals.
