Kyle Sandilands slams The Project’s Steve Price over his criticism of shock jock’s Melbourne debut: ‘He is an expert on failure’

Kyle Sandilands has come out swinging against media personality Steve Price over his criticism of The Kyle And Jackie O Show’s debut in Melbourne this week.

The Sydney-based radio show kicked off with a bang in Melbourne on Monday, with shock jocks Sandilands and Jackie ‘O’ Henderson making plenty of X-rated comments, including a profane opener about sexually transmitted infections (STDs).

Price, 69, who is known for his conservative stance, did not hold back when he denounced the airing of Monday night’s edition of The Project.

“That shit you put on the air this morning, sexualized crap. Toxic, and no one should listen to it,” Price raged, adding: “And you will be a colossal failure in Melbourne.”

Sandilands, 52, responded during Tuesday’s episode of The Kyle And Jackie O Show, questioning whether Price really meant his harsh words or if he was putting on an annoying persona for the camera.

“Does he mean what he says, or is he just full of nonsense?” Sandilands pondered.

“That’s why I won’t get into this on this old grandma’s podcasts. He gets paid to be on The Project, to give his opinion. So he amplifies it,” he added.

He also hit back at Price’s predictions about the future ‘failure’ of The Kyle And Jackie O Show in Melbourne by taking aim at the commentator’s own radio career.

‘Incidentally, [Price]is someone who knows what failure is. Because I think the last breakfast show he did in Melbourne got a 2.6. 2.6, man,” Sandilands sneered.

‘You meet more people at the servo that fills up with fuel. So he’s the expert on failure.’

During his rant on The Project, Price also revealed that Sandilands sent him a “threatening message” the last time he publicly accused the radio king of being a “grubby buffoon.”

“Do it again, Kyle!” Price challenged him, before accusing Sandilands of having the ‘intellect of a cumquat’.

Sandilands did not deny the accusation, but instead played an audio clip of the message in question during Tuesday’s broadcast.

“Hey piece of shit, we’ve talked before. Last time you forgot you’re not allowed to talk about me,’ you heard Sandilands say.

“I can’t wait to see you in person, buddy. It has been too long. It’s disappointing, as you get older you just become a real piece of shit. Feel free to play this on tonight’s Project, because that’s the last performance you’ll ever have. See ya, buddy!’

It comes after Melburnians flocked to Instagram to share their thoughts on the local debut of The Kyle And Jackie O Show, with some disgusted by its overtly sexual content, while others found it a welcome change from their usual local breakfast radio offerings.

One disgruntled listener said: ‘Is your content really suitable for school leavers, no child needs to be exposed to so much sexual content!’

Another wrote: ‘Someone get Kyle off the show. He’s one of the greatest clowns around.’

A third said they hoped Kyle and Jackie O would fail in Melbourne, writing beneath their debut ‘We’re Live’: ‘Hopefully not for long.’

“Rolled around at 7.45am with the kids in the car and Kyle was busy with Jackie’s sex life… No thanks… back to Jase and Lauren,” one person said, referring to the former KIIS FM Melbourne breakfast hosts who were forced to Nova to jump to save their jobs.

Not everyone in Melbourne was saddened by The Kyle and Jackie O Show, with many also stopping by to express their love as they welcomed the radio duo to the city.

One enthusiastic fan wrote: ‘YASSSSSSSS! The King and Queen have arrived! WOO HOOOOO! xxx.’

‘Best show opener at 6am ever!’ another said, while someone else added: ‘Welcome to Melbourne, I love it!’
