Kyle Sandilands slams proposed casting for Aussie remake of The Office
Kyle Sandilands questions proposed casting for Aussie remake of The Office after Magda Szubanski and Kitty Flanagan are put forward for the lead role: ‘They need actors no one has seen before’
Kyle Sandilands has questioned the casting of the lead role in the Australian remake of The Office, played by Ricky Gervais in the original and Steve Carell in the US version.
The reboot of the iconic BBC sitcom, a mockumentary sitcom set in a paper company headed by a hapless boss, will be produced Down Under by Amazon Prime “in the coming months.”
Female stars including Magda Szubanski, Celia Pacquola, Kitty Flanagan, Judith Lucy and Felicity Ward have all been tipped to star.
But Kyle Sandilands questioned the proposed casting on Tuesday morning’s Kyle and Jackie O Show.
“It’s going to be a disaster, I think,” Kyle said. “Because they cast all the wrong kinds of people.

He continued, “What they should have done is use a cast of people that no one has ever seen before, like what happened with the original Office.”
“I mean, you can’t go past Ricky Gervais,” his co-host Jackie “O” Henderson agreed. ‘The UK office was the best’
“It’s going to be a Kath & Kim spoof,” Kyle predicted.
Local names such as Magda Szubanski, Celia Pacquola, Kitty (pictured), Judith Lucy and Felicity Ward have all been floated as possibilities to claim the role of the hair-raising regional manager of a paper company in the Amazon Prime series
The program is produced by Bunya Productions, producers of The Drover’s Wife, Jasper Jones and Mystery Road, according to The Daily Telegraph.
The original series consisted of two six-episode seasons, plus two Christmas specials.
Gervais played David Brent, a bumbling office manager at a major paper company in Slough named Wernham Hogg.
The American remake was produced by NBC and saw Carell take on the role of a version of Gervais, playing Michael Scott, regional manager of the Dunder Mifflin Scranton Branch.
