Kyle Sandilands slams other ‘phoney’ radio shows that are riddled with ‘fighting’ and ‘jealousy’: ‘There’s no fun there’

Kyle Sandilands has hit out at rival radio shows, labeling them as ‘fake’ to colleagues who ‘can’t stand each other’.

The KIIS FM radio host, 51, took aim at other competitors across the country, claiming that many teams do not get along.

On Thursday morning Kyle & Jackie O showthe shock jock shared some insider knowledge from the radio world, while two children gaining work experience are currently in the studio for a week.

When Kyle heard that the work experience students dream of working in radio, he quickly explained why The Kyle & Jackie O Show is different from other radio programs, especially behind the scenes.

“Well, just to be clear, all the other shows are no fun,” he explained.

Kyle added that there is a lot of jealousy and feuding between other radio presenters, before reassuring his team about his off-radio friendship with co-host Jackie ‘O’ Henderson.

“Some of the other shows actually sound like they like each other. I won’t say which one, but they actually can’t stand each other.

‘I could never do this job if I didn’t actually like Jackie. Do I wonder what she says and thinks? Yes often. But I love her, and I respect what she says, even though sometimes I think she’s a psychopath, I still respect that.

“But on other shows they don’t even like each other. They are jealous. There is fighting. It’s all fake.’

Although Kyle did not mention any specific radio stars, there have been several rumors of radio feuds between rival networks such as Nova FM,

Last year, Tim Blackwell appeared to confirm rumors that he and his former co-host Kate Ritchie had a split.

The broadcaster made a snarky comment when asked about her departure from the drive-time show on the Shock Jocks podcast.

When asked what prompted Kate’s departure, Tim replied: “That’s a question for her, I don’t know anything.”

He continued: “She’s a bit of a control freak, she knows what she wants, she’s very vocal, very powerful, she has her own ideas, that’s why we love her so much.”

Meanwhile, Kyle’s manager and the creative director of his radio show Bruno Bouchet said in 2020 that the Australian industry was “littered with hosts who hate working together.”

He claimed one of Sydney’s most iconic duos, Merrick Watts and Tim Ross, didn’t even get along.

Merrick and Rosso started their careers at Triple J and became the so-called ‘kings of breakfast radio’ after moving to Nova 96.9 in 2001.

They split in 2009 and Watts said: ‘This has nothing to do with Rosso and I don’t like each other. No fighting, no fuss, there’s no such thing.’

But Bruno suggested otherwise, claiming they were at odds towards the end of their broadcast partnership.

However, Tim doubled down and dismissed any rumors of a feud between the pair.

Speaking on the Mumbrella podcast last month, Tim described Merrick as a ‘brother’ and said the former partners share a ‘bond’.

“Merrick and I, as I describe it, are like brothers, you know? No one else understands what happened back then,” he said.

Fifi Box and Marty Sheargold also hated working together as co-hosts of Triple M’s The Shebang from 2003 to 2008, Bouchet claimed.

However, Tim went further and dismissed any rumors of a feud between the pair, describing Merrick (pictured) as a ‘brother’ and saying the former partners share a ‘bond’.

“When they did a show together, they sat back to back so they didn’t have to look at each other,” he claimed.

In 2010, Marty left the network to join Nova, and in 2011 he was one-third of the Meshel, Tim & Marty show (which became Kat, Tim & Marty in 2014). He left the network in 2020.

In July this year, he announced he was leaving Nova after ten years with the network.

Meanwhile, Fifi currently hosts Fifi, Fev and Byron on Fox FM in Melbourne.

Bruno also claimed that there had been a feud between former 2Day FM breakfast hosts Em Rusciano and Harley Breen in 2017.

Not on friendly terms: Former radio hosts Peter Moon (left) and Wendy Harmer (right) also hated each other despite a long-running partnership, Mr Bouchet said

“Apparently those two hated each other,” he said.

The duo worked together for about a year, but things reportedly became so tense between them that they didn’t speak to each other off-air for a week.

When Harley’s rep contacted Ny Breaking Australia at the time, he denied Bruno’s claims.

Former radio hosts Peter Moon and Wendy Harmer also disliked each other despite a long collaboration, Bruno said.

The duo co-hosted the 2Day FM breakfast show for eight years, from 1995 to 2002.

Harmer confirmed that the rumors were indeed true, telling Ny Breaking Australia: ‘The feud was no secret; it was in the air every day!’
