Why Matt Shirvington Gets Paid Much Less To Host Sunrise Than David Koch After An Athlete’s Surprise Salary Was Leaked
Kyle Sandilands revealed on Tuesday that he doesn’t believe new Sunrise presenter Matt Shirvington should earn the same amount as veteran presenter David Koch.
The radio king, 51, was discussing the salaries of TV and radio presenters on The Kyle and Jackie O Show when he filed the salary claim.
“I once went into our CEO’s office and said we want $1 million a year, just like The Morning Crew. The man was laughing in my face,” he told co-host Jackie O.
“He said they’d worked here for ten years and got great ratings and we wouldn’t get a million unless we got the same ratings.”
Kyle then said he made a deal that he and Jackie O would get a million dollar salary if they got the same ratings as the morning shift – and the CEO agreed.

“And two months later they had to pay for it,” he said.
He added that new presenters, such as Matt Shirvington, must prove they can draw huge audiences before making high salary demands.
It comes after Kyle and Jackie O hit the top of the radio ratings with a massive 17.9 percent audience share in the latest survey.

According to figures released Tuesday, the duo averaged a whopping 921,000 fans per week, the highest number in their program’s history.
Meanwhile, it was confirmed last week that Shirvo would replace David ‘Kochie’ Koch at Sunrise, following a three-year plan to prepare him for the top job.
Shirvo said he had “mixed feelings” about the new gig as he sat on the couch with Barr and Kochie for the announcement.
He added that new presenters, such as Matt Shirvington, must prove they can draw huge audiences before making high salary demands.
‘Just fantastic. Discouraged. So excited. Cheerful. I cannot tell you what honor and privilege this is, especially Kochie. A huge and exciting job,” he said.
Both Kochie and Barr said they were delighted with the choice.
Shirvo will organize his first edition of Sunrise next Monday, June 12, together with Natalie.
