Lafferty has international duty with Northern Ireland for their UEFA Nations League matches against Kosovo and Greece.
He will start working with Ian Baraclough’s team on Saturday afternoon, but it remains to be seen whether the incident will affect his roster.
In 2011, Lafferty was the victim of sectarian abuse after his car window was smashed at a gas station near Glasgow.
He said at the time: ‘I’m fine, but I’m tired of all this nonsense – there’s no need for it,’ he said.
“All I want to do is focus on my football at Rangers and my relationship with Nicola and I can’t wait for our baby to be born in three weeks. These are exciting times for me and I don’t need to let these incidents ruin them.’
