Kyle and Jackie O producer reveals the insane lengths he went to in attempt to secure an exclusive interview with Olympic breakdancer Raygun: ‘Over 600 times’

A producer from The Kyle and Jackie O Show went to crazy measures to get an exclusive interview with Olympic breakdancer Rachael ‘Raygun’ Gunn.

Peter Deppeler, better known as Intern Pete on the radio show on KIIS FM, revealed on Friday morning that he called Raygun’s mother ‘Bev’ ‘over 600 times’.

He made the admission after presenter Kyle Sandilands began criticising the media for ‘harassing’ Raygun’s family and friends to get an interview with her.

Raygun posted a statement on Instagram on Thursday responding to the hate she received online after her breakdancing performance on the world stage, which earned her zero points.

In it she asked the press to ‘please stop harassing my family, my friends, the Australian breaking community and the wider street dance community’.

The next morning, Kyle, 53, criticized “shady media organizations” for “harassing” Raygun, only to discover that one of his producers was among them.

“What kind of organization would constantly bombard—who do they call? The friends, the street community, the dancers, the mother?” he raged.

At that point, intern Pete, 40, interrupted and said, “Sorry. I want to dig into this. Now that you mention it, I’m one of those people and I apologize for that.”

He revealed: ‘I’ve been trying to get Raygun on the show since the story broke. I’ve called her mother so many times. Like, so many times. Over 600 times.’

Stunned by the lengths his own producer had gone to to arrange an interview, Kyle said, “Did you really call that poor kid’s mother 600 times?”

“Well, we have to get her on the show,” intern Pete said, to which Kyle replied, “You don’t call the mother. You call the rep.”

The producer added: ‘Well, I’ve tried it with Samuel and I’ve tried it in the wider breakdancing community, but no one’s responding.’

It came just hours after Raygun sent a very personal message to the world after her disastrous performance at the Olympics made her a viral sensation.

The Australian failed to impress the judges in Paris, wriggling across the floor like a snake, jumping like a kangaroo and doing the sprinkler exercise.

She has been widely ridiculed online and there are false rumours circulating that she won a spot in the first breakdancing competition through a flawed selection process.

Now Raygun has broken her silence about her shocking performance, the online attention and the wild conspiracy theories surrounding it.

In the statement she said: ‘Hello everyone, Raygun here. I want to start by thanking all the people who have supported me.

“I really appreciate the positivity and I’m glad I was able to bring some joy into your lives. That’s what I was hoping for.

‘I didn’t realize that this would also open the door to so much hate, which has honestly been quite devastating.

“Even though I went there and had fun, I took it very seriously. I worked really hard to prepare for the Olympics and I gave it my all. I really did.

‘I feel honoured to be part of the Australian Olympic team and to be part of breaking’s Olympic debut. What the other athletes have achieved is simply phenomenal.’

“Regarding the allegations and misinformation going around, I would like to ask everyone to read the recent statement from AOC, as well as the posts on Ausbreaking’s Instagram page and the WDSF Breaking for Gold page,” she continued.

‘A fun fact for you: There are actually no points in breaking. If you want to see how the judges thought I did compared to my opponents, you can check out the comparison percentages across all five criteria on Olympics.com, all the results are there.

‘I’m going to be in Europe for a few weeks for some pre-planned downtime, but I really want to ask the press to please stop harassing my family, my friends, the Australian breaking community and the wider street dance community. Everyone has been through a lot because of this, so I ask that you respect their privacy.

“I’ll be happy to answer more questions when I get back to Australia.”
