Misfits, KSI’s new boxing promotion, has announced the first ever WWE-style tag team boxing match as the YouTuber continues to bring celebrity brawling into the spotlight.
The Misfits’ next show in Telford next month, the YouTuber’s fifth hosted since he started a new boxing promotion, will be headlined by Jay Swinger and Nichlmao.
But there’s a big twist to KSI’s fifth show, which promises a ‘double trouble’: a tag team boxing match between two teams of social media stars, including the YouTube sensation’s former boxing rival Luis Pineda.
The Mexican, who was comically knocked out by KSI last summer, will team up with BDave to take on Canadian comedian Kyle ‘Stromedy’ Godfrey and Austin Sprinz, the ‘Fantastic 2’, who share millions of social media followers in a 2v2 on the billboard at the Telford International Center on March 4.
Misfits co-chair Mams Taylor confirmed the announcement in an interview on their official YouTube channel.
KSI’s boxing promotion, Misfits, announced the first ever WWE-style tag team boxing match.
The upcoming Misfits show in Telford next month will feature a tag team boxing match between two teams of social media stars.
“People will hate it, people will love it, some will understand it, some won’t,” promoter Mams Taylor told the promotion youtube channel.
“But at the end of the day, this is what Misfits is all about. We have some serious competition there, we have fun, we have mischief, we have sports entertainment and that’s what it’s all about.
So get used to it, love it, add it, whatever you want. But we’re here to stay and make some noise in an area that’s never been done before. Real combat sports, with real entertainment on another level.’
In a brief statement on Twitter, KSI shared the ad with a series of laughing emojis, saying, “Boxing purists aren’t going to like this one.”
The tag team fight will take place under standard boxing rules for boxers in the ring, wearing 16-ounce gloves to make the fight safer.
Although the exact rules for tagging opponents in and out during the fight have yet to be decided.
BDave (left) and Luis Pineda (right) will team up in the 2v2 fight after meeting earlier this year.
“It’s a little bit safer for everyone,” Taylor added. ‘If people are worried ‘what about security?’ The rules will ensure that safety precautions are taken.
‘Look, this is boxing, this is not a pottery class, this is not golf, this is not darts. If you get in that ring, it’s not safe.
‘You can make it safer by doing certain things and we already do that through the most stringent tests.
‘The medical exams, everything else we have is more complete than traditional professional boxing. So we take all measures, but we still want to make sure we entertain and that’s what it’s all about for us.
