Kristin Cavallari refuses to let her kids be reality stars until they’re 18

It’s been nearly 20 years since Kristin Cavallari was plucked from obscurity as a high school student and joined the cast of MTV’s Laguna Beach, revealing she won’t let her three kids go down the same path.

The 36-year-old fashion designer and cookbook author β€” who reunited with her Laguna Beach cast to promote her new jewelry line β€” opened up about her time on the show on an episode of The Jennifer Hudson Show that aired Wednesday.

When asked by Hudson how she would react if any of her children β€” 10-year-old son Camden, 8-year-old son Jaxson, and 7-year-old daughter Saylor β€” wanted to become reality stars or content creators, she said she would not allow…until they are adults.

“I’d say no until they’re 18,” Cavallari said with a laugh on the talk show, though she’d back it up as they get older.

“Look, if they want to have a career in entertainment when they’re 18, I’ll absolutely support that… but until they’re 18, I just want them to be kids,” she said.

“It’s hard enough being in high school and doing everything you did as a kid, so just focus on that,” she added.

She did admit that both her boys are “obsessed with YouTube stars now,” adding that they want their own YouTube channel.

‘No, we’re not doing anything about that. I don’t even put them on Instagram. I’m just trying to keep them kids as long as possible,” she said to applause.

Cavallari finalized her divorce from former NFL quarterback Jay Cutler in June 2022, and the single mother opened up about her dating life.

“I’ve just taken the position that there’s nothing to report until I’m in a serious, committed relationship,” Cavallari said.

‘I have fun, I have good dating stories. This is the first time in my life that I’m really going out,” she clarified.

β€œI’ve always had boyfriends, I got married very young so I just enjoy it. I go on dates. I’m an active dater, but there’s no one to report on yet,” she said to applause.

When Hudson asked what she was looking for in a man, she said, “I’m looking for someone so secure, so comfortable in his own skin, and I really want a buddy, someone I can laugh and have fun with.” ‘

She added that dating with kids changes things and she wants someone who “will be really good to my kids, who’s a good dad, so those things are really important.”

Cavalarri admitted she’s in a lucky position because I don’t need a man for anything. I just want to be with someone because they bring me joy.”

She also opened on Laguna Beach, adding, “It’s hard to believe” that it’s been almost 20 years since the show debuted in 2004.

β€œIt’s been a wild ride. I was in high school when that started and that show really fell into my lap,” she said.

“When I graduated from high school, I moved to LA and just rode the wave and you know, I had a lot of fun and did a lot of exciting things,” she added.

“But now that I’m in Franklin, Tennessee, I have to say it’s nice not to have entertainment anymore, but I can stick my toe back in if I want to,” she continued.

β€œI have three kids and I now have a very… normal life I would say, as much as possible, and I’ve set it up where everything I do now β€” cookbooks, my lifestyle brand Uncommon James β€” I can make the most of from do my house and just be a mom first and foremost, and that’s really nice,” she said.

When asked what her favorite part of being a mom is, she said, “it’s everything,” adding that they’re “such a good mirror to us” and “the best teachers.”

“Just having all that love and having these little guys to raise and you can instill the wisdom that you’ve learned over the years has given me real purpose in life I’d say and it’s the best thing I’ve ever done “Really,” Cavalarri said.
