Tragic texts that led to young man’s death at a music festival are revealed

Some of the last text messages a young man sent before he died after taking several pills at a music festival have been revealed.

Edward Lui, 21, died after taking three 150mg MDMA capsules and an ‘imp’, containing 300mg of MDMA, during the Knockout Festival at Sydney Olympic Park in October last year.

The drugs had been secured by Lui’s friends, Jaime Tran and Nicholas Leow, who bought them from 24-year-old Trong Ha Nguyen.

Nguyen provided 46 people with 1,894 MDMA capsules, six imported MDMA tablets, 87 bags of edibles and six bags of ketamine at the festival, court documents show. news.com.au reported.

He made a profit of $33,725 that day.

Police arrested Nguyen his Rex flight back to Melbourne.

Officers also seized Leow’s phone, which showed a conversation between him and Mr Lui on the day of the festival.

Mr Lui asked if it was too late to order more ‘goodies’ for the event and Leow told him that it was.

Text messages between Mr Lui and a friend can be seen on the day of the festival where Mr Lui asks for more ‘goodies’

“Still got you for one imp, right?” Leo said.

‘Yes, easy algae (all good). Just for other people. As long as I still have mine LOL,” Mr. Lazy replied.

After the festival, Mr Lui fell asleep on the taxi ride back to his hotel in George Street, but his girlfriend soon noticed something was wrong.

Ngoc Chau Le Hoang saw her boyfriend acting strangely around 10 p.m., kissing his jacket and “waving his arms as if he had no control over his body.”

She called an ambulance after noticing that Mr Lui’s lips were purple and his skin was pale.

Police arrested 24-year-old Trong Ha Nguyen after discovering he had supplied drugs to 46 people at the festival, including Mr Lui.

He was taken St. Vincent’s Hospital to be treated for an excessive build-up of serotonin in his body.

Ms Hoang left Mr Lui’s side to call his mother once he arrived at the hospital, but by the time she returned to the room her boyfriend was already dead.

Leow and Tran were convicted of supplying the lethal drugs to Mr Lui.

Both received community corrections orders for one count of supplying the prohibited drug MDMA.

The court also heard that Nguyen had previously spent a year in the Villawood Detention Center and that his student visa expired after his arrest.

He will be sentenced on Tuesday for supplying drugs.
